An investigation into the thermal properties of Corex slag and the relationship between thermal profiles and setting times

The w/b ratios for the experimental mixtures were determined through the standard consistence test, which was conducted as described in SANS 50196-3:2006. The results of the test as well as the Blaine fineness* of PC (CEM 52.5 N), GGBS and GGCS are presented in the table below.

*Note: The Blaine fineness values for the slags were taken from Research Monograph 6 (Alexander et al., 2003) and value for the PC (CEM I 52.5 N) was acquired from PPC directly (Jones, 2012).
RESULTS OF SETTING TIME TESTS (SANS 50196-3:2006)
The results of the test, which can be seen in the table below, clearly indicated that slag increases the initial and final setting times, but no clear difference in initial time of set was seen between Corex slag and blastfurance slag.
